In his role, Mike performs extensive equipment maintenance and troubleshooting within Schlumberger's facility, focusing on reliable, high-performance tools for offshore operations. His daily work is largely shop-based, involving hands-on repair and maintenance in demanding conditions that require awareness of potential hazards like heavy machinery, moving forklifts, and sharp equipment. Mike’s schedule runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with paid overtime as needed.

Following high school, Mike joined the Canadian Armed Forces, receiving training as a Vehicle Technician, which developed his mechanical aptitude and foundational skills. His time in the forces allowed him to work on a wide range of equipment, from small machinery to tanks, and his Army Cadets involvement instilled a strong work ethic and discipline. After 10 years in the Armed Forces, he transitioned to Schlumberger, where he has worked both onshore and offshore for the past seven years. He continues to expand his career, with opportunities limited only by his ambition and performance.

Mike’s workdays consist of equipment repairs, troubleshooting, and regular travel for training and assistance in other districts, including destinations across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. His proximity to work, just a five-minute drive from home, allows for an easy commute. Working in the shop can be physically demanding and requires adaptive measures for varying seasonal conditions, such as cold in winter and humidity in summer. Safety is paramount in his environment, where heavy lifting, exposure to chemicals, and the operation of cranes and forklifts are routine.
